Westmeath make four changes for crunch clash with Limerick
The Westmeath team has been named for the crucial Allianz Football League Division 3 clash against Limerick at TEG Cusack Park tomorrow (Sunday), throw-in 2pm.
There are four changes to the starting team which crashed to a heavy defeat at the hands of Laois a fortnight ago (3-16 to 1-13).
Rosemount's Boidu Sayeh, Jonathan Lynam (who missed the last game through injury), Danny McCartan and Tom Molloy are the four players drafted into the starting line-up.
With Ray Connellan suspended following his red card in the dying embers of the Laois match, Sam McCartan and Lynam form the midfield pairing. Killucan defender Sam Smyth and Moate All Whites duo Harry Niall and Robbie Forde are the others who drop out of the starting XV.
Ronan Wallace and Matthew Whittaker, both of whom were forced off with injuries against Laois, have been selected to start, but the Baker brothers (Senan and Tadhg) are absent from the match-day squad.
Stephen McGonagle (Tubberclair), Adam Treanor (Shandonagh), Conor Dillon (Milltown) and Shane Ormsby (Mullingar Shamrocks) are among the substitutes.
Westmeath need a win tomorrow in order to stay in contention for promotion and team manager Mark McHugh will be looking for a strong reaction to the humbling defeat to Laois.
But a Limerick side which defeated Westmeath in last year's Tailteann Cup are certainly capable of providing a tricky test. In addition, the Treaty men will be keen for a positive result to ease their relegation worries as they currently lie second from bottom on the table with three points.
"We have a huge game against Limerick. We have to win that. If we win that, then we'll go down to Wexford on the last day. So it's in our hands. We've had good results earlier on but if we play like we played in the second half tonight, we'll not get anywhere,” said McHugh in the aftermath of the Laois defeat.
