New committee formed and Mullingar Darkness Into Light 'going ahead this year'

A new committee has been formed and Darkness Into Light is going ahead in Mullingar this year.

The members have met and are planning more meetings and a launch shortly. In the meantime, they are looking for more people to join them, as marshals or who can help out in any way.

The route is from Mullingar Rugby Club to the hospital and back, which is exactly 5k.

On March 5, the Facebook page, Darkness Into Light Mullingar, had this post:

"It is with deep regret that we share the news that the Darkness Into Light walk will not take place in Mullingar this year.

"We understand how important this event is for many people in our community. It has always been a special opportunity for people to come together, remember loved ones, support one another, and stand with Pieta as we symbolically walk from darkness into light.

"We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the previous organising committee for the time, dedication and care they put into bringing this event to our community. Their efforts have had a lasting impact on so many people.

"We sincerely apologise to everyone who had hoped to take part this year.

"If anyone would be interested in helping to form a new committee for future Darkness Into Light events in Mullingar, your support would be greatly valued. If you would like to get involved, please contact sinead.ronanwells@pieta.ie.

"Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to show compassion and support for one another."

On March 8, the page had this update in a post:

"Some great people have already stepped up to help make Darkness Into Light Mullingar happen this May, and we’re really grateful for the support that’s starting to build in the community.

"To make this event as meaningful and successful as possible, we’d love to see even more support from the Mullingar community - whether that’s individuals, local groups, or businesses who would like to get involved. Of you can email sinead.ronanwells@pieta.ie please.

"We’re holding a meeting at 7:30pm in the lobby or the Mullingar Park Hotel on Monday March 9th to plan the event, and anyone who’d like to help or learn more is very welcome to come along.

"Let’s work together to turn darkness into light for those affected by suicide and self-harm. If you can give a little time, support, or resources, we’d love to have you involved."
