Man to stand trial accused of Mullingar car hijacking

A man in his 30s is to stand trial accused of hijacking a vehicle during an alleged crime spree in Mullingar 18 months ago.

Brendan Glynn (39) with an address at Shalmar House, Finisklin, Sligo, appeared at Mullingar District Court last Thursday to face three charges arising from an incident on September 17, 2024.

Mr Glynn was charged with stealing a handbag and its contents valued at €100 from a named female at Maxol, Dublin Bridge, Mullingar, and making off with €84 of aftershave from Shaws Department Store, Austin Friar Street, Mullingar on the same date.

The most serious charge alleged Mr Glynn seized a grey Hyundai Tucson “by force” at Maxol, Dublin Bridge, Mullingar.

Garda Mervyn Henson gave sworn evidence of serving a book of evidence on Mr Glynn on the morning of last week’s District Court proceedings.

Judge Bernadette Owens gave the accused the alibi warning and remanded him to Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court on April 16.
