Three Mullingar men have pleaded guilty to committing violent disorder and causing criminal damage during a bar room brawl at a local GAA club.

Father and son James Dinnegan (57) and Jamie Dinnegan (34) both of 224 Dalton Park, an Thomas Dinnegan (54), of 143 Raithin, Mullingar, Westmeath entered the pleas at last week’s sitting of Mullingar District Court before Judge Bernadette Owens.

The incident the trio were charged in connection with occurred at a GAA club grounds on June 9, 2024.

The charges state all three were involved in a dispute with up to seven other men during which damage was caused to bar furniture in the clubhouse.

Sgt Orla Keenan said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had consented for the case to remain in the District Court provided all three entered guilty pleas.

When they were formally tendered to the court, defence solicitor Louis Kiernan requested that sentencing be adjourned for a further three months to allow formal submissions of mitigation to be prepared.

Judge Owens accepted jurisdiction and approved Mr Kiernan’s application by remanding all three on bail to Mullingar District Court on June 25.
