Accused of threatening to glass woman ‘through face’ in livestream feud video

A man has appeared in court accused of threatening to put a pint glass “through the face” of a woman during a live video recorded on social media.

Michael Joyce (30) with an address at 18 Grange Village, Mullingar, Westmeath, appeared at last week’s sitting of Mullingar District Court charged with an incident at his home on November 11, 2025.

Sgt Orla Keenan, presenting the state evidence, said it will be alleged the accused posted the content as part of an ongoing feud between the Nevin and Dinnegan families in Mullingar.

She said the alleged victim, Lucy Dinnegan, went to Mullingar Garda Station a short time later to make a complaint over the video which, she had viewed.

Sgt Keenan said Ms Dinnegan alleged the video contained “threatening and abusive” comments about her and “derogatory” remarks about her family.

The court heard Ms Dinnegan said Mr Joyce had also threatened to “put a glass through her face”.

Sgt Keenan said Ms Dinnegan told gardaí the recording had put her in fear and in the belief Mr Joyce would follow through on the alleged threat.

Investigating gardaí, Sgt Keenan added, viewed the video and Mr Joyce was charged under the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020.

The particulars of that charge alleged Mr Joyce “distributed or published a threatening or grossly offensive communication” about Lucy Dinnegan “with intent to cause harm”.

Having heard the prosecution case, Judge Bernadette Owens accepted jurisdiction and a disclosure order of all state evidence was made to Mr Joyce’s defence team.

Mr Joyce was then remanded on bail to Mullingar District Court on May 7.
