Game, set and match to Patricia after more than 30 years

For virtually all sports clubs dotted around the country, it is widely acknowledged that to enable any club to be run successfully, there is a huge dependency on those volunteers who are so committed to their clubs. Mullingar Tennis and Badminton club is no different. Whilst many members helped out so well with the day to day running of the club over the past many years, one person in particular stands head and shoulders above them all. No surprise for so many past or current members, that this person is indeed Patricia Sheridan.

Patricia has been involved in the Mullingar Tennis and Badminton club for well over 30 years and still helps out when the need arises.

She has held numerous positions on the committee, too many to mention here, but will be best remembered for her time as club treasurer and not least, as competition director. Patricia must have been responsible for being in charge of all the Junior and Senior Opens, the Club Championships and many other club events over the past 30 years or so, (possibly well over 100) which is some achievement if you considers all the organising involved, and without Patricia’s dedication and commitment, the club could not have been run so successfully to the enormous benefit of so many members.

To celebrate her recent 80th birthday, Patricia was guest of honour at a special gathering with twelve of her close friends and supporters connected to the club to acknowledge their gratitude to Patricia for her dedication to the club on behalf of so many members, whether they may be former or current members.

There are two other ladies who were also remembered on this occasion, both of them sadly no longer with us, namely Rose Cotter and Detty Cornally, who also did Trojan work as volunteers over the years also.

Thanks to Elearnor McArdle for organising this wonderful event.
