Charged with causing €2,000 of damage to bus
A man has appeared in court charged with shattering the glass door of a parked bus in Mullingar, causing €2,000 of damage in the process.
Sean Cox (33) of 36 Grange Crescent, Mullingar, Westmeath, was charged with committing criminal damage at Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar, on February 23, 2025.
Sgt Orla Keenan said the incident occurred at 11.30pm and, it will be alleged, Mr Cox walked towards a bus parked on the road, kicked it and shattered a glass door.
The court heard the incident was captured on CCTV and the estimated damage amounted to €2,000.
Judge Bernadette Owens alluded to an existing charge Mr Cox was before the court on in which urine analysis was awaited.
Defence barrister Andrea Callan said her client had an appointment booked for the day after last Thursday’s court and Judge Owens indicated no decision on any of the charges would be taken until the court saw those results.
Ms Callan said the court could see, at first hand through his physical appearance, the progress Mr Cox was making.
Judge Owens also said the court was awaiting Mr Cox’s completion of a pro social driving course in connection to a number of road traffic charges from May 2024.
On that basis, Judge Owens directed an updated probation report and remanded Mr Cox on bail to Mullingar District Court on May 28.
