Shandonagh ladies celebrate great year
The Shandonagh Ladies Football Club came together to celebrate a memorable year at their medal presentation in the Annebrook House Hotel, Mullingar, on March 27.
Special guest was former Westmeath ladies football Fiona Claffey. Fiona was a key member of the Westmeath team who won the All-Ireland intermediate title in 2011 and a decade later, she captained the side to another All-Ireland victory in 2021. One of Westmeath LGFA’s most respected players, she enjoyed a remarkable playing career.
Molly O’Farrell, Shandonagh Ladies Football secretary, said the club was proud to celebrate a successful year.
“We are celebrating Junior ‘B’ championship success, minor and U16 success from 2025, which is a great achievement. It is an exciting time for Shandonagh as we grow our LGFA programme,” she said.
“Only a few years ago we didn’t have a ladies team and this is our first silverware, so it’s fantastic. The strength and numbers from our Un16 and minor teams show that the future is bright for the club.”
She thanked all the parents, supporters and sponsors for their input, and acknowledged the players.
“They are the most important people; if our players weren’t here, this club wouldn’t be as special as it is. We have a great turnout this evening and we are looking forward to a really exciting 2026 season,” she added.
