Loreto College Mullingar TYs hear of value of trees

Westmeath County Council, Westmeath PPN in conjunction with TY students from Loreto College Mullingar spent a day litter picking around the Royal Canal near their school. The students were amazed by how much litter can be collected by working together in a short bit of time. Some planted flowers at Cusack Park and some went on a nature walk along the Royal Canal.

Thanks to Shane Boyne, environmental awareness officer from Westmeath County Council, for supplying litter pickers, bags and hi-vis vests, and to guest speaker Sean Doran, who helped entertain the students by playing tunes on his guitar. Sean also helped with the litter picking event as well. PJ Fitzpatrick from Crann Trees for Ireland spoke to the students about trees form a major part in everyday lives.

Thanks also to Westmeath PPN representative John Bawle, who organised the event with teacher Catherine Gallagher, and to the other teachers who helped through the day.
