Walkers put in laps for Parkinson's
The participants in the Mullingar Walk in the Park for Parkinson’s added to the atmosphere at a busy St Loman’s GAA grounds on Saturday morning when they gathered for the Dovida backed event.
As well as the usual training for the underage players, there were Go Games for boys, which drew in additional numbers along with the walkers.
The walk is part of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, to help promote the Parkinson’s Ireland ‘Meds on Time, Every Time’ campaign, highlighting the role medication timing plays in managing Parkinson’s Disease for the estimated 18,000 people living with the condition in Ireland.
‘A Walk in the Park for Parkinson’s’ took place in 21 locations on Saturday.
As part of the campaign, Parkinson’s Ireland has developed tools, resources and educational materials to support people with Parkinson’s and their care partners.
Parkinson’s Disease is an incurable progressive neurological disorder with more than 40 associated symptoms that can vary from person to person.
Fundraising is a key part of Parkinson’s Ireland’s work, and the walk at St Loman’s GAA was part of that as it brought together members of the local Parkinson’s community, their families, friends and supporters.
“This year, the event is sponsored by Dovida, the home care providers.
Lorraine McLaughlin from Dovida Midlands said: “We are delighted to once again sponsor this important event to raise awareness and vital funds for people with Parkinson’s all over Ireland.
“We are equally proud to endorse this new campaign. As an organisation that supports people with Parkinson’s, we know medication timing matters. Our caregiver training and scheduling reflect this to ensure our clients are supported to get their medication on time, every time.”
