BEEF2026 Open Day to feature latest research and innovation
The BEEF2026 Open Day on July 1 will feature the latest research and innovation in beef cattle farming and showcase systems and technological advances that farmers can use to increase production and drive income in a sustainable way.
Taking place on Wednesday July 1 at Teagasc Grange in Dunsany, BEEF2026 is the main Teagasc open day for the year, and its theme is ‘Driving Sustainable Performance’.
Information boards and talks on the main topics of interest to cattle farmers will be combined with live demonstrations and interactive sessions focusing on the latest animal and grassland research and technologies of benefit to Irish beef farmers.
Speaking at the launch of this summer’s event, director of Teagasc Professor Frank O’Mara said; “The beef sector is extremely important to the national economy and plays a crucial role in generating activity in the rural economy. Cattle farming is critical to rural Ireland, and the grass based, family farm systems used in Ireland provides sustainably produced beef for Irish and international markets.”
John Cahalan, chief commercial officer at FBD Insurance (sponsors of BEEF2026), said it is a valuable opportunity to connect with farmers and share practical ideas that support the future of Irish beef production. “FBD Insurance is proud to support events like this that bring the industry together and help farmers build more resilient businesses.”
Dr Paul Crosson, Teagasc Beef Enterprise leader, added: “We have seen a seismic shift in beef markets in the last year, and this event will focus on the opportunities that this presents to Irish beef cattle farmers. We must, of course, remain conscious of the consumer demand for sustainable farm systems so, backed by practical, applied research, the best advice for farmers to drive their businesses forward will be highlighted on July 1.”
Head of Drystock Knowledge Transfer in Teagasc, Pearse Kelly, said the latest suckler beef research along with the trial work on dairy calf to beef will be showcased on the day, so there will be something relevant and of interest for all cattle farmers, irrespective of their production systems.
