Gigginstown Angus sale sees top prize heifer sell for over €9000
Sellers and buyers from across the country descended on the midlands last Saturday for the The Gigginstown Angus Sale.
This sale by Gigginstown House of lots from their Angus herd, the pedigree stock belonging to Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary, saw 41 animals pass through the ring.
The Gigginstown Sale prides itself on providing top quality genetics for both bulls and heifers. Farmers from across the country trekked to the sale at Fennor Farm in search of these exceptional pedigree animals.
The day saw a high number of bulls and Angus heifers, all pedigree registered, with the average price for heifers up almost €600 from the 2025 sale, settling at €5,210.
The Gigginstown Angus Sale has an incredible history which is acknowledged at this year's event as organisers celebrate the sales 30th anniversary.
Of course, all bulls on offer were ready to breed and in honour of the anniversary some heifers on offer came from the famous Shadwell Angus Herd.
Kathleen O’Mahony, wife of Gigginstown Manager Joe, was delighted with the turnout which saw upwards of 400 people descend on the Westmeath farm.
“It was excellent,” says Kathleen, “A complete sellout, total clearance on both the heifers and the bulls which was excellent.
“The top prize heifer, Gigginstown Lady Gatsby A942, sold at €9,600 setting a new record price for this annual event. For the bulls Gigginstown Red Eagle A10 commanded the highest price of €6,300."
Kathleen also made sure to thank all the staff involved who she credits to the , “Massive success,” of the day.
