Funding made available for an upgrade to Mullingar Town Park

Recipients for this year’s Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation have been announced today by Norma Foley TD.

The Minister for Children, Disability and Equality announced a total of €600,000 being awarded to 30 Local Authorities across the country.

The aim of the scheme is to support Local Authorities to improve play and recreation facilities within their areas.

The funding can be used to upgrade facilities or to create new ones, with an overall funding of €22,000 per project.

This year, the scheme is putting a particular emphasis on access and inclusion, which will help children with a range of needs to use the facilities.

These include wheelchair-accessible seesaws, teenager-specific spaces, inclusive sensory playground equipment, and upgraded accessibility features.

Minister Foley said: “I am delighted to announce this year’s Capital Grants for Play and Recreation, which will provide vital support for communities in developing vibrant, inclusive, and accessible spaces for children and young people.

“These investments reflect our strong commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play, explore, and thrive in safe and inspiring environments.

“We look forward to working closely with each local authority to deliver these projects that will enhance wellbeing, promote active lifestyles, and strengthen community connections across the country.”
