Burke confirms Mullingar tourism office to open full-time next week
Mullingar tourism office will open on a full-time basis from May, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, TD, has confirmed following a meeting with the CEO of Fáilte Ireland.
Located on the Market Square, the office will have a dedicated staff member in place year-round to offer advice, information and support on the wide range of amenities and attractions in and around Mullingar.
Reopening the office on a full-time basis has been a priority for Minister Burke since taking on the tourism brief last year, he said. In recent years, the facility operated on a part-time, seasonal basis during the summer months.
Minister Burke said the office would “significantly strengthen Mullingar’s tourism offering.”
“As tourism minister, working with Fáilte Ireland, we can now confirm that the tourist office in the centre of Mullingar will be open full-time from May 1,” he said.
“This will provide an opportunity to further develop our tourism offering and support the growing number of visitors to the town.
“Mullingar has so much to offer, from its rich musical heritage to its excellent lakes and outdoor amenities, as well as attractions such as Belvedere House and Gardens. The tourist office will play a key role in helping visitors discover everything the area has to offer.
“We are also focused on working more closely with local businesses, supporting digitalisation and enhancements so they can benefit from new opportunities arising from our national tourism policy. A key priority is developing less mature markets by at least seven per cent per annum.”
The full-time reopening forms part of a pilot programme aimed at establishing regional tourism hubs, which will also provide space and support for tourism SMEs.
