Gearing up for Lions Club Summer Cycle Challenge

A well established charity challenge that will appeal to all cyclists – competitive and leisurely – after months of continuous wind and rain returns on Monday next, the May bank holiday.

The event is the popular Mullingar Lions Club Summer Cycle Challenge and it starts at Shandonagh GAA on Monday morning May 4. Registration opens at 8am and both the 90km and 40km groups start at 9am.

Entry is €30 and the funds raised will support the special Lions Club project ongoing since 2023 ‘to provide support and respite for many families in the community coping with additional needs and autism’.

Cyclists on 90km route will leave Shandonagh and go towards Athlone, take a left turn at Corr crossroads and continue to Moate for the food stop, which this year is at Moate community centre. After refreshments and a break, they cycle to Kilbeggan, to Tyrrellspass and Rochfortbridge, turn left and return to Shandonagh via Mullingar.

The 40kms group will make their way to greenway at the Cleaboy entrance, cycle to Streamstown, where they will enjoy refreshments at Jack’s Stop and then back to Shandonagh.

Both routes will be clearly marked, and good back-up support will be available.

Mullingar Lions Club invite everyone to take to their bikes and come along to enjoy a great occasion of fun, healthy exercise and camaraderie in the first days of summer.
