Milltownpass to welcome Bog Bothy with community launch event

Milltownpass TidyTowns is inviting the local community to the official local launch of the Bog Bothy at Milltownpass Bog on the Coralstown Road tomorrow, Monday 4 May, from 12 noon.

The Bog Bothy, which has recently arrived in the area as part of a wider touring project, will be based on Milltownpass Bog for eight weeks, where it will be used as a shared space for community led walks, talks, school visits, arts activities and informal gatherings, all rooted in the landscape of the bog and surrounding woodland.

The launch event on bank holiday Monday will be a relaxed, half day drop-in, with guided tours of the Bothy, workshops for adults and children, a guided walk on the bog, and informal opportunities to chat and learn more about what’s planned while the Bothy is in the area.

Light refreshments will be available, and people are welcome to drop in at any stage or stay for as long as they wish.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Ronan Lynskey of Milltownpass TidyTowns, said: “The Bothy is something a little different, and that’s what makes it exciting. It’s a small space in a big landscape, and it gives people a reason to slow down, have a conversation, and see the bog in a new way.

"Whether you stay for five minutes or the full afternoon, we’d really encourage people to come along, take a look, and see what it’s all about.”

The Bog Bothy is a partnership project between the Irish Architecture Foundation and 12th Field, co created with local communities. The Bog Bothy 2026 tour is funded by Tóchar.

Milltownpass TidyTowns is encouraging local residents, families, schools and community groups to attend the launch and to get involved in events and activities over the coming weeks while the Bothy is in residence.

Updates on upcoming Bothy events and activities will be shared through the Milltownpass TidyTowns on Facebook and other social media.
