Talented boxer on Irish team for Four Nations event in Scotland

Mullingar boxer Paddy Nevin, competing at 70kg, has qualified for the Four Nations Boxing Tournament in Scotland and will be part of the Irish team which travels on June 9.

It’s a significant honour for the Mullingar Elite Boxing Club member, who trains five times a week. He has also won two Irish titles to secure his qualification for the Irish team.

Paddy has been competing in the sport since the age of 11 when he was Boy 1, but in truth his boxing career began much younger when he was eight years old. At the age of 11, he reached the semi-final of the All-Ireland and a year later he was in the final. Last year he won the All-Ireland and followed that up with victory again in 2026.

A Mullingar Community College student, Paddy is enjoying his boxing career at the successful Mullingar club.

“It’s an excellent club and the coaches are outstanding. We work with Tony Conroy, Matty Charles, John (Ditzy), David (Ditzy) and Daniel Nevin. The training is top class and we really enjoy it,” he said.

Paddy forced a stoppage in the Box Cup in Neilstown, Dublin recently, his opponent counted out after 18 seconds. He was one of seven winners from the Mullingar Elite Boxing Club and has won it three years in succession. The competition runs over three days and is seriously competitive.

Following the upcoming Four Nations event, Paddy returns to Monkstown for another Box Cup and then later in the year, he is targeting the Cadets. It takes a big level of commitment, but he is enjoying his chosen sport.

Another Mullingar Elite boxer, Ronan Charles will join Paddy on the Four Nations Irish team.
