Glenveagh lodge plans for 278-home development
Westmeath County Council planners are considering a proposal for a large housing development on the outskirts of Mullingar,
Glenveagh Homes Ltd lodged plans with the local authority to build 278 new homes and a childcare facility on a 19-acre site at Rathgowan or Farranshock (townland).
The proposed works include three ESB substations, footpaths, cycle lanes, car and bicycle parking, drainage, bin storage, public lighting, landscaping/amenity areas and boundary treatments.
Access to the proposed estate is via Rathgowan Park from the existing roundabout on the south and Ashe Road to the north. The plans are that the site development works will include the decommissioning and relocation of existing underground surface water attenuation tanks and the diversion of two existing foul sewer lines. Those two existing foul lines will outfall to a new single foul pipe proposed as part of the new drainage network.
Glenveagh Properties chief executive, Stephen Garvey, oversees a significant operation with a headcount of over 400 employees. Maynooth based, they are among the larger building firms in the country.
In their description of the Farranshock development, they say it offers multiple primary and secondary schools in the locality: “It’s the perfect place for growing families to put down roots in this amenity-rich, friendly neighbourhood. The local area is packed with well-established, vibrant sports clubs, including football, GAA, rugby, and golf.”
