Town Band and Sweet Tunes Choir delight audience at Atrium concert
The Atrium at Westmeath County Council was filled with music and song community on Tuesday evening, 5 May, as Mullingar Town Band joined the Sweet Tunes Choir for a concert enjoyed by a large and appreciative audience.
Beginning at 7pm, the event featured a varied and entertaining programme of music including classical overtures, marches, music from the musicals, Spanish favourites and many well-loved classics.
The audience enthusiastically sang along throughout the concert, creating an uplifting atmosphere in the beautiful Atrium setting.
A highlight of the evening was a solo performance by Eoin Carey, who impressed the audience with his rendition of ‘Abracadabra’ on the xylophone accompanied by the band.
The concert also featured a talented Clarinet Quartet of band members Sharon Revins, Eilín Brady, Patricia Magee and Stephen O’Hara, who performed moving versions of ‘Danny Boy’ and ‘Moon River’.
The Sweet Tunes Choir, under the direction of Angela Lynch, delivered beautiful renditions of ‘Stopping By Woods’ and ‘I Lived’ as part of their programme.
Vincent Dolan, musical director and conductor of the Concert Band, was master of ceremonies for the evening.
The concert concluded with band and choir coming together for lively performances of ‘Something Stupid’ and ‘I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, earning warm applause from the audience.
