New disabled parking bay planned for post office
An additional disabled driver parking bay is to be installed on Dominick Street in Mullingar as part of ongoing accessibility improvements.
The update came in response to a query from Cllr Mick Dollard, who asked the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad to outline plans for parking there.
The council confirmed that an Age Friendly parking space was installed in 2025, and a further disabled bay is due in the second quarter of 2026.
Cllr Dollard said: “I welcome the fact that we want to locate an additional disabled driver’s bay in Dominick Street because there’s a lot of pressure at that location.”
He noted that with only one post office serving Mullingar, the facility is heavily used by elderly and disabled people. He also called for enforcement to ensure the spaces are used appropriately, particularly during busy periods.
Separately, the council confirmed progress to Cllr Dollard on the Active Travel Project for the Dublin Road, and approval was granted by the National Transport Authority to proceed to tender for a detailed design consultant. Director of services Deirdre Reilly said tender documents are expected to be published within weeks, and the assessment process will follow.
A further issue raised related to safety at Robinstown Row: he asked that the district carry out a safety survey there. The response stated that the housing section had confirmed that two parts of a three-part safety audit have been carried out, and the final stage in the coming weeks. In response to a further query, the council confirmed it will examine a tree at Hillside Drive following concerns that its roots are damaging an adjoining footpath, and appropriate pruning works will be determined.
