Joe Earley and Aine Savage.On a great day for Westmeath sport, last weekend our county badminton team won the All-Ireland Inter Counties grade 6 Championships, beating the champions of Munster (Waterford) 5-4 and the champions of Connaught (Galway) also 5-4 in Galway. They were two very close games, but victory went the way of the Westmeath side.
Congrats to all the management team, selectors and coaches and most especially the players themselves. This is a historic day for sport in the lake county. It was a combined team with players from Mullingar Badminton Club, Ballymore, Turin and Loughegar.
Also, the Victor Inter League Grade 3 All-Ireland Finals were held on Sunday May 24, where Mullingar beat Limerick but lost out in the finals to Galway, meaning they secured a brilliant All-Ireland Silver medal. It was a wonderful end to the competition season.
