€93,000 worth of illegal drugs seized, Athlone

Gardaí attached to the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit, supported by the Garda Dog Unit, DDU Athlone and student Gardaí conducted a search of a domestic residence in Athlone, Co. Westmeath yesterday, Thursday, June 4, 2026.

During the course of the operation, Gardaí seized €85,000 of suspected cocaine, €8000 of suspected cannabis, €2000 cash and electronic devices of evidential value.

Two adult males (aged in their 20s) were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a Garda Station in the Eastern Region.

They have since been charged in relation to this investigation and are due to appear before Athlone District Court today 5th June 2026 at 10:30am.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
