Blueballs Midlands members welcome colleagues from Dublin group to Lough Owel
Members of Blueballs Midlands welcomed members from Bull Wall Blueballs, Dublin, for a get-together at Lough Owel to mark Men’s Mental Health Month (June).
They enjoyed the opportunity to meet, chat, compare stories, and share experiences and laughs. The banter started the minute the Dubs made their way down the steps to the lake, where they were welcomed to the home of the Leinster football champions.
The friendly rivalry between the counties was never far away and set the tone for an evening filled with good humour, good conversation and good craic.
After the swim came the all-important cup of tea and a bit of grub, giving everyone the chance to warm up, relax and continue the conversations that had started in the water. New friendships were formed and old connections were strengthened,
Bull Wall Blueballs co-founder Paul Cullen said: “Although our members often talk about serious stuff, we don’t take ourselves too seriously.” Damien Rooney from the mdlands group added: “This is all about men supporting each other one conversation at a time.”
Further Blueballs events during June include hikes art by the lake, as part of the Green Blue project, and both groups agreed on any more collaboration and joint events, including a visit to Bull Wall.
The Blueballs movement was established in November 2022 at the Forty Foot in Dublin and in the midlands two years later, with the aim to get men talking. Traditionally, many men can find it difficult to open up, discuss feelings, or take the time to connect with others. Through weekly swims and regular gatherings, Blueballs provide a space where men can communicate, support one another and build friendships.
Weekly swims now take place in Mullingar, Wicklow, Bull Wall and the Forty Foot in Sandycove, and the movement continues to grow.
If you are interested in joining Blueballs Midlands, new members are always welcome, and its free; whether you’re looking for a swim, a chat, or simply the company of a good group of lads, they’d be delighted to see you.
