Troy to hold Sports Capital Fund briefing for local clubs and schools on Wednesday
Minister of State Robert Troy has confirmed details of an upcoming briefing for local organisations with Minister Charlie McConalogue in advance of the latest round of Sports Capital funding.
The briefing will be held at the Downs GAA Clubhouse on Wednesday of this week, 1 July, at 8pm and is open to all clubs, schools, and groups to attend.
“I have previously facilitated similar briefings in advance of funding calls and clubs have found them extremely useful in terms of providing clear information on the application process,” said Minister Troy.
“Sports Capital is a hugely popular funding stream and has had a tremendous impact on the facilities at our sports clubs locally over the last 10 years or so.
“It is hugely important that clubs who are considering applying are well informed of the criteria and how to maximise the level of grant aid which they can leverage for projects,” said Minister Troy.
Minister with Responsibility for Sport Charlie McConalogue confirmed that “the purpose of information evenings such as this is to help steer volunteers in clubs through the application process, and to assist clubs in overcoming difficulties with their individual applications or drawing down funding”.
“The sessions also serve to help the department better understand the common difficulties encountered by clubs and organisations.
“I am acutely aware, through the previous rounds of funding how closely Minister Troy has worked with local clubs, which is why I am happy to assist him with this information evening and ensuring Westmeath applicants can maximise their funding potential.”
Since 2017 some €16m has been allocated to 283 different projects across Westmeath under the Sports Capital Programme; in 2023 alone, more than €8.5 was allocated to Westmeath based projects.
