Sunday’s Sleator Kia / Midlands Suzuki 18-Hole Fourball Betterball was contested in blustery conditions, with the course presenting in excellent shape throughout. The winners now progress to the Holmpatrick Cup Regional Qualifiers, adding extra significance to an already competitive day of golf.

Junior Golf

The second week of the Junior Programme took place on Tuesday June 23, with more than 80 boys, girls, teenagers, beginners and developing golfers taking part from as early as 7 a.m. right through to around 4 p.m. It was a fantastic day of activity and enthusiasm across the club. Sincere thanks to the club for its continued support, and to the 20-plus volunteers whose time and commitment make the programme possible.

Round 4 of Order of Merit with Fourth Open Singles Stableford

Friday June 26 brought sunny, warm conditions for the fourth Open Singles competition at Mullingar Golf Club, kindly sponsored by EBS and played alongside the Order of Merit event supported by Egan’s Auctioneers. A strong field of 59 players from 14 different clubs produced superb scoring throughout the day. Josh Barrett (22) of Mountbellew GC topped the gents with an excellent 41 points, followed by Mullingar’s Mark Keane (10) on 39 points. In the ladies’ section, Alison O’Neill (26) continued her fine form with 39 points to take first place, while Helen Moorhead (19) secured second on 36 points. The Gross prize went to Mullingar’s David Tynan (0) with a superb 35 gross points. Congratulations to all the winners and well done to everyone who took part.

The Egan’s Auctioneers Order of Merit Gross standings after four rounds show Tadhg Connell leading the way on 200 points, followed by Oisin Scally on 180. Billy Lambden and Simon Carr sit close behind on 150 points apiece, with Ross McKinley rounding out the top five on 140 points.

Friday July 3 will feature the fifth 18-hole Open Singles Stableford, kindly sponsored by Charter Medical Private Hospital, running alongside Round Five of the Order of Merit Summer Series, supported by Egan’s Auctioneers. The Order of Merit spans 12 weeks, with each Friday’s Open Singles contributing to the overall standings; points are awarded to the top 25 finishers, and players must return a minimum of five counting scores to qualify. Prizes will be presented for Overall Winner, Gross Winner, Ladies Winner, Gents Winner and Junior Winner. The BRS is now open, so book your tee time and get yourself into the mix.

Nine and Dine

The second Nine and Dine of the year took place on Friday June 26 in glorious sunshine, with eight teams of four enjoying the ever-popular Texas Scramble format — nine holes of golf followed by a delicious dinner, the perfect recipe for a Friday evening. The winners were Aidan Daly, Patricia Smartt, Mary Daly and Joanne Charles; runners-up were Pat Forde, Margaret Forde, Eugene Hill and Helen Hill. Congratulations to all the prize-winners and well done to everyone who took part. The next Nine & Dine will be held on Friday July 17.

Long Handicap

Finally, after a weather-driven two-week break, the LH competitions restarted. This week saw the President Frank McDonagh’s Prize to the LH over 15 holes in a Stableford competition.

Men’s Seniors weekly competition result

This 9-hole Stableford now plays as a competition from Monday to Friday through the summer. Winner Seamus Casey (17) 24pts; Runner-up Kesavan Ravikumar (15) 22pts; Third Pat Layde (18) 21pts. Thanks to all 43 who took part. This is a strong summer performance from both Seamus Casey and Pat Layde, who continue to rack up the points.

Ladies golf

Wednesday June 24 brought warm, sunny weather as 80 ladies took part in the 18-Hole Singles Stableford, kindly sponsored by Corey Doherty, PGA Professional, alongside the PGA Tankard competition. Scoring was exceptional across the board, with Lillie Donoghue (31) leading the way on 43 points to claim first nett, followed closely by Jeanette McDonnell (19) on 42 points, who also secured the PGA Tankard. Aideen Kellaghan (9) produced a superb 27 gross points to take the Gross prize. Category winners were Ann Marie Conlon (13) with 40 points in Cat 1; Julie Delahunty Moore (18) with 41 points in Cat 2; Liz Mahon (27) on 36 points in Cat 3; and Mary Carr (32) with 37 points in Cat 4. Silver went to Mary J. McCormack (31) with 35 points, while Helen Collier (18) claimed the Back 9 with 22 points. Additionally, 33 ladies competed in the 9-Hole event, where Rosemary Whelehan (6) topped the leaderboard with an excellent 18 points.

Inter-Club Results - Ladies Leinster Trophy

The Ladies Leinster Trophy team were in action against New Forest on Monday June 22. Mullingar fielded their three lower-handicap players away in New Forest, while the three higher-handicap players competed at home. Despite a strong effort across both venues, it wasn’t our day — the team recorded one win away and three halved matches at home. The ladies gave their all and left everything out on the course, representing the club with pride.

North Leinster Mixed Fourball

Mullingar Golf Club faced a formidable Greenore side in the North Leinster Mixed Foursomes and, despite some fine golf played throughout the matches, it wasn’t to be — the result finishing 3.5 to 0.5 in Greenore’s favour. A battling effort from the team, who kept their heads up and fought hard right to the final green.

Irish Mixed Four-Ball

Saturday June 27 brought a sharp change in the weather, with chilly winds sweeping across the course for the Irish Mixed Four-Ball match against Portarlington. Mullingar arrived with purpose and plenty of determination, and that focus paid off — securing an impressive 3–1 victory over a strong Portarlington side. The win now sends Mullingar through to face Esker Hills in the Leinster Central Quarter-finals, where the momentum will surely continue.

Men's Leinster Trophy

In blustery conditions and in a hard-fought match, Mullingar prevailed 5–2 in this tight singles contest. In the home matches, Jake Bell and Harry Tilson played superb golf, winning both matches early, as did Niall Kennedy, grinding out his win on the 16th. In the first away match, Niall O'Dowd clinched his match on the 16th to put Mullingar into the fourth round.

Men’s Duggan Cup

The third round of the Duggan Cup took place against Longford, with two matches played at home and three away. On home soil, McCarthy/Dolan and McGurran/Caffrey secured important wins. Away in Longford, the top match saw Gavin/Gallagher prevail on the 17th, sealing an overall victory for Mullingar. The team now advances to the quarter-finals.

Ladies Revive Active

The second round of the Revive Active was played in blustery conditions, where Mullingar came up short against a strong New Forest side, losing 3.5–0.5. Despite the result, the team fought throughout and left everything on the course. Sincere thanks to all players for their effort, commitment and determination.

Mullingar Ladies Branch - Play in Pink

Mullingar Golf Club will turn pink on Wednesday July 1 as the ladies take to the fairways for this year’s Play in Pink charity event in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. The day is set to blend fun, friendship and fundraising, with participants encouraged to wear their brightest pink in support of vital cancer research. The programme features an Open Ladies Fourball, open to both members and visitors, with entry set at €60 for visitors and €45 for member-guest pairs, each including a €15 meal voucher. A Members’ 9-Hole Singles Stableford will also run throughout the day.

A raffle in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute will take place, with tickets available in the bar and restaurant. Prize-giving and the raffle draw will be held on the evening of Wednesday July 1, bringing the event to a fitting close.

Lady Captain’s Prize – Sunday July 12

Mullingar Golf Club will host the Lady Captain’s Prize on Sunday July 12, the highlight of the ladies’ golfing calendar. Lady Captain Jackie Mills has dedicated considerable time and effort to preparing for the occasion, and members are encouraged to support her by taking part in either the 18-Hole Stroke competition or the Members’ 9-Hole Singles Stableford. Prize-giving will take place on the evening of July 12, rounding off what promises to be an enjoyable and well-supported day at the club. BRS opens at 8 p.m. on Saturday July 4.

Ladies Open Fourball Betterball – Wednesday July 15

Kindly sponsored by The Fashion Shop, the Ladies 18-Hole Open Fourball Betterball competition takes place on Wednesday July 15, welcoming both members and visitors for what promises to be a lively and enjoyable day of summer golf. Entry fees are €7.50 for Members, €45 for a Member’s Guest (including a €15 meal voucher), and €60 for Visitors (including a €15 meal voucher). A Members’ Ladies & Gents 9-Hole Competition (€5) will also run on the day.
