Plans lodged for advanced manufacturing facility
Plans have been submitted for the construction of a new 2,500-square-metre advanced manufacturing and office building at Ardmore Business and Technology Park, Mullingar, in a move aimed at further strengthening Westmeath's capacity to attract high-value investment and employment.
The planning application was lodged with Westmeath County Council on June 20, 2026, by Westmeath Enterprise and Innovation Designated Activity Company (DAC) for a 1.307-hectare site at Marlinstown, on lands owned by IDA Ireland. A decision on the application is due on August 14.
The proposed development will comprise an Advanced Building Solution (ABS) facility ranging in height from one to three storeys, with a total floor area of 2,500 square metres. The building is designed to accommodate light industrial, manufacturing and office uses, providing flexible space for potential multinational or high-tech employers.
The development includes a three-storey reception and office block of approximately 700 square metres incorporating administration offices, staff welfare facilities, meeting areas and plant rooms. A 1,725-square-metre production hall will provide manufacturing space with a 10-metre internal clearance, while a separate single-storey services building will house a substation, switchroom and waste storage facilities. Around 300 square metres of rooftop photovoltaic panels are also proposed to improve the building's energy efficiency.
External works include revised site access arrangements, 41 car parking spaces, including three accessible spaces and seven electric vehicle charging bays, and parking for 42 bicycles. New pedestrian and cycle access points, a pedestrian crossing, landscaping, drainage infrastructure and associated site works also form part of the proposal.
Westmeath Enterprise and Innovation DAC was established in 2019 to drive economic growth, support sustainable development and attract foreign direct investment to the county. Working alongside Westmeath County Council and enterprise agencies, the organisation focuses on developing modern business infrastructure capable of accommodating advanced manufacturing and technology companies.
The proposed building is located within the expanding Mullingar (Ardmore) Business and Technology Park, where other industrial developments are already under construction. If approved, the project would provide another high-specification facility aimed at supporting future job creation and reinforcing Mullingar's position as a strategic location for advanced industry and international investment.
