Lynne Algar Remembrance Swim moves to Lough Owel
The Lynne Algar Remembrance Swim, an annual event that celebrates the life and legacy of Lynne Algar, moves to Lough Owel this year and takes place on Saturday, July 25 at 11am.
The organisers describe Lynne as “a cherished friend, dedicated athlete, and inspiring member of our community”.
This year, they gather for the third Remembrance Swim in Lynne’s honour, bringing together family, friends, swimmers, and supporters.
The event, a fundraiser for Brain Tumour Ireland, starts and finishes at the diving boards on Lough Owel and is on a 2.8km rectangular course, out to Church Island, parallel to and then back to the railway line lakeshore, and back to the diving boards.
It is an open water swim, and therefore there are risks involved, the organisers point out; participants have to complete registration and sign a waiver in advance.
The entry fee of €40 per person will go to Brain Tumour Ireland.
Before the main swim, there is a 200-metre Kids Splash and Dash Fun Race; registration is not required for that – swimmers and simply go along and join in.
