Nina Carberry back in the saddle for charity race

Nina Carberry, former champion jockey and sitting Midlands–North-West MEP, will make a special return to racing at the Curragh on Saturday 29th August, when she takes part in the Pat Smullen Charity Race in aid of Cancer Trials Ireland.

The annual event honours the life and legacy of Pat Smullen, the nine-time Irish champion flat jockey who became an inspirational advocate for cancer research following his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer.

Pat, his family and the wider racing community helped raise more than €2.6 million for pancreatic cancer research before his death, creating a legacy that continues through the Pat Smullen Race Day.

Carberry, a former Irish Grand National winner and seven-time Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey said:

“I’m delighted to be saddling up again and returning to the Curragh for such a great cause. Pat was a true champion, both on and off the track, and his courage inspired people far beyond the racing world. I’m proud to play a small part in continuing his legacy and raising vital funds for cancer research and clinical trials.”

The Pat Smullen Race Day brings together the racing community, supporters and families to raise funds for Cancer Trials Ireland and to support the development of new and improved treatments for cancer patients.
