Wardens to monitor parking at new development

Community wardens are to monitor parking at a new residential development in Mullingar, on foot of a complaint from Cllr Ken Glynn. He said that despite raising the issue “ad nauseam”, construction traffic has been parking at the entrance to Newbrook Grove and Drive – adjacent to the new development.

“It’s not fair; it’s going to cause an accident,” he said, adding that residents in that area are “blue in the face” asking for the problem to be solved.

Cllr Glynn proposed that yellow lines be painted inside the main entrance to Newbrook Grove/ Drive, and by way of response, the district office responded that it would examine that location to determine the best solution.

“In the interim, community wardens will monitor this location,” the response concluded.

Expressing the fear that the current arrangement is going to lead to an accident, he requested that the construction traffic be told to park in the correct place, or otherwise drivers would face action from the council.

“You’re parking at the inside of an entrance to a residential area, which is endangering people’s lives as they’re trying to enter and exit to a busy road. You would not get away with it anywhere else, and it’s been ongoing for months,” he said.

At the same meeting, Cllr Glynn asked that the district consider the provision of a bus shelter at Gainstown, and was informed that the provision of a bus stop shelter at Gainstown has been included in the next phase of the Bus Stop Enhancement Programme.

A request by Cllr Glynn that the district consider the provision of a traffic calming measure at The Avenue, Greenpark, elicited the response that it would be considered as part of the future works estimates.
