More than €2m owed in derelict sites levies in Westmeath

Uncollected derelict site levies in Westmeath amounted to €2.345m at the end of 2025, it has emerged.

The figures were released to Cllr Liam McDaniel at the July meeting of the Athlone Moate Municipal District.

It was reported recently that uncollected levies nationwide totalled €32m at end of 2025, meaning that Westmeath accounted for over 7% of the national figure.

Westmeath was among 11 counties not to collect any derelict site levies in 2024.

The existing Derelict Sites Levy, which amounts to 7% of the market valuation of relevant sites, is soon to be replaced by a new Derelict Property Tax to be collected by Revenue.
