Experience ‘Celtic Kindness’ – the Story and Music of Turlough O’Carolan – at a Special After Hours at the Museum Event
The Maria Edgeworth Centre invites audiences to a magical evening of music, storytelling and Irish heritage with The Story and Music of Turlough O’Carolan, a unique live performance taking place on Wednesday August 20 at 7.30pm in The Green, Edgeworthstown.
Presented as part of After Hours at the Museum and National Heritage Week, the performance celebrates the life and legacy of Ireland’s legendary blind harper, Turlough O’Carolan.
Performed by Celtic Grace – David Williams, Eileen Beamish and Paddy Creedon – the production combines live Celtic music, original storytelling and poetry to bring O’Carolan’s story to life.
Based on historical events, the show follows the life of the celebrated composer, whose music continues to inspire audiences around the world more than three centuries later.

In her 1817, novel ‘Ormond’, Maria Edgeworth introduced Turlough O’Carolan to her readers as a historical character. She weaved him into the early stages of the narrative to serve specific thematic cultural purposes.
The event next wek forms part of the Maria Edgeworth Centre’s expanding After Hours at the Museum programme, supported by the Dept of Culture, Communications and Sport, which encourages people to experience museums and heritage in new and engaging ways beyond normal opening hours.
Taking place during National Heritage Week, the performance also celebrates this year’s theme by bringing Ireland’s rich cultural heritage to life through music and storytelling.
