Road sweeping, grass cutting and gully clearing

Road sweeping in Lakepoint Estate, grass cutting at a junction on the old N52 and clearing blocked gullies on Castle Street were to be carried out, Westmeath County Council confirmed. The commitments were given in responses to a series of questions from Cllr Aoife Davitt at the July meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Cllr Davitt asked that Lakepoint Estate be swept, and the District Office confirmed that road sweeping would be carried out there within two weeks.

She also sought grass cutting and a clean-up of the area where Macetown and Cooksboro meet on the old N52. In response, the District Office said crews were currently cutting grass at all major junctions, including that one.

In a third question, Cllr Davitt requested works to address flooding caused by a blocked gully at a property on Castle Street. The council said gullies on the street would be cleared within the following two weeks as part of the maintenance programme.

At the same meeting, Cllr Aoife Davitt was informed that footpaths on the N52 between the bridge over the N4 and Ballagh had been cleaned. She had tabled a motion calling on the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad to clean and clear the footpath, but the District Office advised that the work had been completed earlier that week.

In a separate motion, Cllr Davitt sought repairs or replacement of the road surface at Kilpatrick Bridge in Mullingar. The District Office said that surface would be examined to determine what works were required, and any necessary repairs would be considered as part of future works estimates.
