Housing hopes for landmark Ashe Road site
An application for planning permission for a 55-home development on a landmark site on the Ashe Road in Mullingar has been lodged with Westmeath County Council.
The site is that occupied by the old farmhouse ‘Barrack View’, a protected structure built in the mid-1880s, on the intersection of the Ashe Road and the C Link Road.
Submitted by Mela Homes, the application is for works to that house ; demolition of two vacant agricultural sheds, and the construction of 55 residential units, resulting in a total of 57 units.
The residential development comprises a mix of two-bed, three-bed and four-bed terraced houses; along with four apartments.
The old farmhouse is to be converted into two three-bedroom, two-storey semi-detached houses.
The application was lodged with the council on July 23 and a decision is due on September 16.
Sports
On the sporting front, a number of applications have been lodged with the council.
Castlepollard GAA Club have applied to extend their existing clubhouse to provide a community recreational area, match viewing area, storage, as well as a stage area.
The club also plan to erect two bike stands and to install a 740m x 3m wide walking path with 28 lights along the perimeter of the site.
Permission is also sought to upgrade the existing agricultural entrance to accommodate an entrance for recreational use, with 20 car parking spaces and all associated site works.
Kinnegad Juniors AFC have applied to construct a new natural grass playing pitch at their grounds at Killucan Road, Kinnegad.
Granted permission
Permission has been granted to Fore Distillery Limited to extend its existing premises at Lakill, Moretown, Fore in order to provide a roof terrace.
The firm has also received permission for amendments and alterations to elevations and floor plans of its existing premises, and also to erect a detached storage shed and a detached structure incorporating sanitary facilities.
Permission to install a 27-metre high telecommunications support structure at Garrane, Tyrrellspass, has been granted to APW UK WIP LIMITED (t/a Icon Tower). The permission allows also for the erection of antennas, dishes, remote radio units, and an aircraft warning light, as well as permission to build ground-based equipment cabinets in a compound enclosed by 2.4m high palisade fencing.
In Killucan, Ray Smyth Roof Trusses Ltd has received conditional permission to construct a timber truss fabrication building and to erect a staff facility building and to remove two prefab buildings and a storage shed.
Conditional permission has also been granted to Robert and Karen Glennon to retain an existing equestrian development comprising stables, a feed and machinery store, an outdoor arena, a manure pit, and all associated site works as constructed, at Harbour Road, Kilbeggan Permission is also granted for additional development to facilitate an equine breeding facility, including the construction of an indoor arena, stables, a feed and tack room, a covered manure pit, and all associated site works.
Howden Joinery Properties Ltd have received permission to install a new mezzanine floor within an existing warehouse/light industrial unit at Zone A, Mullingar Business Park and to carry out modifications, including provision of a new customer entrance.
