SpeedShearing returns to Lisryan this Saturday

It has become a feature of the midland farming calendar and next Saturday, August 15, the annual SpeedShearing event takes place at Murphy’s Crossroads Inn, Lisryan, N39 R1X8.

This competitive agricultural gathering features top sheep shearers and has raised funds for charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The speed shearing of sheep is a particularly demanding skill that requires physical endurance, and intense training. Shearers must have the strength and stamina to maintain a working rhythm over long hours.

The day will feature competitive sheep shearing across Junior, Senior, Open, Ladies and Old-Timers classes, and there is more than €2,500 in prize money on offer.

The event raised €8,819 for the Gavin Glynn Foundation in 2025 and €7,330 the previous year for the Make A Wish Foundation; this year, proceeds raised will go to makethemoove.ie.

There will also be a family day out atmosphere with BBQ, live music, and a newly introduced Best Dressed Little Farmer competition for children as well as a mock shearing competition with Teddies.

Registration for the SpeedShearing is from 3pm and shearing starts at 4pm.
