Mullingar teenager Luke Fitzsimons signs professional deal with Torino

A talented young Mullingar footballer has taken a major step in his career after signing his first professional contract with Italian Serie A club Torino.

Sixteen-year-old Luke Fitzsimons has agreed a three-year deal with the Turin-based club, marking an exciting new chapter for a player who has developed through the local football and GAA communities. Mullingar Athletic AFC was among those to congratulate Luke on the achievement, highlighting the important role the club played in his early development. Luke spent his grassroots football years under the guidance of current Senior Men’s coach Ray Geoghegan and his team of coaches.

His move to Italy follows three highly successful seasons with St Patrick’s Athletic, where he continued to develop and establish himself as one of the country’s promising young players. Luke has also represented Ireland at Under-16 level.

St Loman’s Mullingar GAA also sent its best wishes to the teenager, describing him as an “underage star” and acknowledging the scale of the opportunity that now awaits him in Italy. Luke’s progression from the local sporting scene in Mullingar to one of Italy’s top-flight clubs is a significant achievement and one that will be followed with interest across Westmeath.

For a young player who has already made a strong impression at domestic and international underage level, the move represents an opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s most competitive football environments.

The Westmeath sporting community will now be keeping a close eye on Luke’s progress as he embarks on this exciting next stage of his football journey.
