Council support for fishing training and education
Westmeath County Council has given an undertaking to write to Inland Fisheries Ireland and Waterways Ireland to establish a training and education programme for children in The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad to teach water safety and angling skills.
The letter came as a result of a motion put before The Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad at the authority's last assembly.
Cllr Niall Gaffney tabled the proposal to communicate with Inland Fisheries Ireland and Waterways Ireland to set up the fishing training and education.
In their reply the executive said: “The District Office has advised that if members are in agreement a letter will issue to Inland Fisheries Ireland and Waterways Ireland in this regard.”
The motion was supported across the board by the local authority members.
