Argentine town interested in Westmeath twinning proposal

The local authority of a town in Argentina has accepted the invitation to begin the process of twinning with the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Council members learned at their September meeting that the municipality of San Antonio de Areco had responded positively to the approach from Westmeath.

Cllr Aoife Davitt, welcoming the news, asked was the district set to proceed with the arrangement.

“I’m just wondering if we have something formulated or what’s the next steps in relation to it? I presume we’re going to set a date for a group meeting as well. I know that I’ve had people contact me personally that they would like to be involved in our little group as well,” she said.

Council official Mary Goldsberry replied that in accordance with the twinning protocol, the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District has established a twinning committee.

“Their committee have agreed the process, our committee have agreed it. So the next step now is just about writing to them now. And we said, once constituted, the twinning committee should become affiliated to the PPN.”
