Death of 'truly lovely young man' in Fordstown collision

Leon Doyle from Castlepollard 'was such a kind soul and so funny'

A young man with a beautiful simile and carefree ways is being mourned this week following the death of Leon Doyle in a road traffic collision at Johnsbrook, Fordstown, Kells, on Tuesday.

Leon, of Benison Lodge, Milltown, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath, is remembered in condolences as a "truly lovely young man who was always pleasant, kind and willing to help ... who will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him."

Former classmates recall that "Leon was such a kind soul and so funny ... who will never be forgotten and will live forever in our hearts." His "cheeky smile and fun, caring and warm personality," was remembered as one tribute said "Growing up with him truly was a pleasure and something not to be taken for granted."

Predeceased by his grandparents, Petria and Finbarr Coyle, Danny Doyle and his uncle, Donal Doyle; Leon is survived and mourned by his parents, Helen, Ronald and Catherine; grandmother, Olive Doyle; siblings, Ava, Jamie, William, Alex and Emma; his soulmate, Jada and close relatives and friends.

Leon is reposing at his home, Benison Lodge, Milltown, Castlepollard (N91 C2Y6) until 7pm, tomorrow, Friday 25th September. Arriving at St Michael's Church of Ireland, The Square, Castlepollard, on Saturday for funeral service at 1.30pm, followed by cremation ceremony at the Lakelands Funeral Home and Crematorium, Cavan.

The teenager was is understood to have just begun an apprenticeship in Athboy.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision at Johnsbrook, Fordstown, on Tuesday (22nd September).

At approximately 12.30pm Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a lorry and a car. Leeon, who was driver of the car, aged in his late teens, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver of the lorry received medical attention at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N52 between Fordstown and Clonmellon between 12pm and 1pm are asked to make this footage available to the investigating Gardaí.
