Dog park on Leonard wishlist for Kinnegad

Road repairs, hedge cutting, parking, a possible dog park and the preservation of a wooden fence were among a number of local issues raised by Cllr Denis Leonard (right) at the September meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

Cllr Leonard asked the council to examine the Cloncrave to Hyde Park road in Kinnegad, from the Killucan Road junction to Darcy’s Bridge, where he said the road had sunk and was threatening water infrastructure.

The District Office confirmed that the road would be examined and repairs carried out as part of normal road maintenance.

Cllr Leonard also asked that hedges at the front of the Cluain Craobh estate in Kinnegad be kept at a low level to prevent them facilitating anti-social behaviour.

The District Office said hedge cutting would be carried out at the location as part of its normal hedge-cutting operations.

A further issue concerned the long wooden fence running from Tesco to the Kinnegad river bridge. Cllr Leonard asked if the fence could be painted in the interest of its preservation. The council said that, if members were in agreement, a letter could be sent to Tesco requesting that the fence be painted.

Cllr Leonard also asked the district to provide additional car parking spaces in Bun Daire estate, citing the high volume of cars per house, and to install bollards where parking should not be allowed.

The District Office said it would consider the installation of additional car parking spaces as part of the 2027 works estimates.

The councillor also asked the district to investigate a possible location for a dog park in Kinnegad.

The District Office said the proposal could be examined once a suitable location had been identified and a funding source secured as part of future district projects.
