Funeral details revealed after young Westmeath man found in lake
Kyle Geoghegan - the young Westmeath man who was found in Lough Ennell following a ten-day search - will be laid to rest this Saturday, October 3.
The body of Kyle, who was aged in his 20s, was found yesterday (Tuesday), bringing an end to a lengthy and heart-wrenching search which involved several agencies and a massive community effort.
Kyle from Adamstown, Castletown Geoghegan, Co. Westmeath passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 19, the day he took his boat out on Lough Ennell.
Predeceased by his grandparents Colm and Marie Geoghegan, he will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family. Kyle will be deeply regretted and forever remembered by his loving family, parents Tom and Cathy (Russell), brother Shane and his partner Mia, sisters Abbey and Anna May, grandparents Margaret and Richard Russell and stepdad Thiago.
He will also be fondly remembered by aunts, uncles, grandaunts, granduncles, cousins, relatives, work mates, a wide circle of friends, great neighbours and the whole community.
Tom, Cathy and family have thanked everyone "who helped in any way with the rescue of Kyle", including "rescue boat teams, neighbours, caterers, communities from all over Ireland, shops and hotels, donations towards fuel for the boats, An Garda Síochána, Fr Robert (McCabe) and Fr David (O'Hanlon), and people who sent messages of support and prayers".
Kyle's death notice states that messages of condolences to his family can be submitted via the rip.ie website, with a request that the family home remain private at all times.
Kyle will repose at Castletown Geoghegan GAA club house (N91 ARN8) on Friday, October 2 from 5.30pm, concluding with funeral prayers scheduled for 8.30. Arriving for funeral mass at 12noon on Saturday to St Michael's Church, Castletown Geoghegan, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Castletown Geoghegan Hurling Club has extended "deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Kyle Geoghegan following the heartbreaking news of his passing".
"Our thoughts are with Kyle’s family, friends and all those affected at this incredibly difficult time," said the club.
"We would also like to acknowledge the incredible community effort over recent days, with so many people giving their time and assistance to the search. The support shown by everyone involved was a true reflection of our community coming together when it mattered most. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam, " the club added.
St Malachy’s GFC, sister club of Castletown Geoghegan, has also extended "deepest sympathies" to Kyle's family.
"We remember his family, his friends, and the wider community of Castletown Geoghegan and Mullingar. The community spirit shown over the last number of days proves the incredible community we have in Castletown Geoghegan. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones at this difficult time. May he rest in peace," said St Malachy's.
