5k walk for Breast Cancer Month planned for Rochfortbridge
A Rochfortbridge woman is turning her own experience of breast cancer into an opportunity to give something back during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.
Rosie Ennis has launched a fundraising campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer and support vital services and research, and a community 5k walk is planned for Rochfortbridge.
The walk is on Sunday October 25, at 11am, starting from Bagnall’s in Rochfortbridge. Registration costs €5 per person, and people of all ages are encouraged to go along and support the cause.
Rosie said her breast cancer diagnosis “turned my world upside down”, bringing fear, uncertainty and many difficult days.
She said she was supported throughout her journey by her family, friends and healthcare professionals, whose kindness and encouragement helped her through an extremely challenging period.
“Because of my experience, I wanted to give something back,” Rosie said.
She hopes the October fundraiser will raise funds and encourage people to talk about breast cancer and highlight the importance of support for those affected by the disease.
“This cause is close to my heart,” she said. “Every step we take will be for those who have faced breast cancer, those currently fighting it, and in memory of those we have lost.”
Rosie is appealing to the local community to get behind the event, whether by taking part in the walk, making a donation or sharing details of the fundraiser.
She said every contribution, regardless of size, can make a difference to families affected by breast cancer.
The GoFundMe campaign has so far raised €699 of its €1,000 target from 13 donations.
Rosie thanked everyone who has already supported the campaign and said she would be “so grateful” for further support as Rochfortbridge comes together for the October fundraiser.
