Bunbrosna to celebrate 125 years of GAA memories

Bunbrosna GAA’s rich history, sporting achievements and community spirit will be celebrated this Saturday when the club’s Reeling in the Years of Bunbrosna event takes place in Tormeys, Bunbrosna.

The event forms part of the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations, marking a century and a quarter of involvement in the local community.

Since the project began in January, volunteers have gathered photographs, match programmes, newspaper cuttings, memorabilia and personal recollections to preserve the story of the club and the generations who helped shape its history.

Sinéad Tormey, one of those involved, said the aim was to delve into the past and uncover memories and treasures from the club’s early years.

The collection celebrates more than footballing achievements, highlighting Bunbrosna’s proud Scór tradition, which has brought All-Ireland success. Among the discoveries are photographs, notes and match reports relating to a Bunbrosna camogie team that played during the 1960s.

The project has also provided an opportunity to remember former players, volunteers and families whose dedication helped build the club over generations.

While sporting success has come in different periods throughout its history, Bunbrosna GAA’s enduring strength lies in its role as a focal point for the community.

Saturday’s gathering will give past and present members, families and friends an opportunity to share stories and celebrate the people behind the club’s journey.

The anniversary celebrations will continue later this year with a dinner dance.

Organisers are also appealing to anyone with old photographs, memorabilia or memories of Bunbrosna GAA to come forward and contribute to the growing archive, ensuring the club’s achievements, friendships and community spirit are preserved for future generations.
