Rochfortbridge Town Team not expected to be in place until late 2027 – county council

A Town Team for Rochfortbridge is not expected to be fully established until the end of 2027, despite funding of up to €10,000 having been allocated towards the initiative in the first quarter of 2024.

The timeline was outlined by Westmeath County Council’s Community Development Section in response to a question from Cllr Emily Wallace at the October meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

Cllr Wallace asked for an update on the establishment of the team, highlighting the role Town Teams play in driving local regeneration and targeting community funding. She also asked when Rochfortbridge residents could expect the team to become fully operational.

The council said initial work had already been undertaken towards developing a potential Town Team for the village.

That included the co-ordination and completion of a Health Check report in 2024 and a Walkability Study in 2025.

Both documents will inform the development of a Town Centre First Plan for Rochfortbridge.

The Community Development Section said the process of establishing a Town Team was lengthy, and work on setting up the team is envisaged to begin in the first quarter of 2027 and be completed by the fourth quarter of that year.

Multyfarnham

At the same meeting, Cllr Wallace sought an update on the delayed pedestrian crossing for Multyfarnham village, calling for its immediate installation to allow people to cross the main road safely.

The District Office confirmed that an application for funding had been submitted under the 2026 CLÁR programme for traffic-calming measures, including a pedestrian crossing in the village. The executive said announcements on funding are expected in November.
