LARCC host information day to raise awareness of breast and prostate cancer
Breast and Prostate cancer awareness month was marked by a special information day at LARCC on October 9, and a large crowd was welcomed to listen to the panel of guest speakers.
They included the John Wall, who spoke about living with stage four prostate cancer, and Saoirse Cleary of Haló Studio, who shared her story of hair loss, living with alopecia and the community support she has built through the ‘The Hair Loss Haven’.
Rose of Tralee Caoilfhinn Ní Choiligh spoke about her own hair loss and the fear she felt entering the Rose of Tralee but how she did it anyway and went on to win the Rose of Tralee in August.
Skin smart advice was given by Michelle Hogan from Shaws Department Store too, and Paul Cheevers led movement and dance sessions, to music supplied by local friends and musicians.
Manager at Cancer Support Sanctuary LARCC Bernie McHugh said: “To all the volunteers from Delvin and beyond who helped us today and had the tea and goodies flowing all day, we say a huge thank you.”
Bernie also thanked the numerous sponsors who donated raffle prizes. All the funds raised from the raffle are going towards the continuing professional services delivered at the centre in Multyfarnham.
“All that is left to say is a very sincere thank you. We had a most fabulous day,” Bernie concluded.
