Mullingar Sustainable Energy Community invite householders to explore solar meitheal
Information evening to outline how local householders can come together to make solar energy more accessible and affordable
Mullingar Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) are inviting householders across the town to attend an information evening on Wednesday, 4 November, to learn more about the possibility of establishing a solar meitheal in Mullingar.
A solar meitheal is a community-led approach that brings householders together to explore the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on their homes. By combining their interest and purchasing power, participants can potentially benefit from more competitive prices, shared knowledge and advice, and a simpler process for moving towards renewable energy.
The approach is based on the traditional Irish concept of meitheal, where neighbours and members of a community come together to help one another achieve a common goal. In this case, the goal is to make the transition to clean, locally generated energy more accessible to householders, while helping reduce energy bills and carbon emissions.
The information evening will provide an opportunity for interested householders to find out how a solar meitheal works, what participation might involve and the potential benefits of taking a collective approach to installing solar panels. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and register an interest in becoming involved.
Mullingar SEC hopes the initiative will encourage greater local participation in the transition to renewable energy, demonstrating how community cooperation can deliver practical benefits for individual households and the town as a whole.
