Multyfarnham celebrates renowned historian and scholar Fr Paul Walsh by unveiling a commemorative plaque at The Rock on November 8.
Fr Paul Walsh was the parish priest in Multyfarnham from 1932 until his death in 1941. He was laid to rest in The Rock Cemetery, and it is there that the Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise, Paul Connell, will address the congregation after 11am Mass on Sunday November 8.
Fr Walsh is remembered as a diligent scholar who produced original research on many aspects of Irish history. He had some 300 journal articles published and more than 20 books, including ‘The Place names of Westmeath’.
Colm O’Lochlainn stated. ‘There never lived any Irish historian who had a fuller or more intimate knowledge of the history of Ireland, during the years of the Norman Conquest to the Williamite wars.’
All are encouraged to come to The Rock, Multyfarnham on November 8, after 11 Mass in the Church of St Nicholas to learn more local and national history, and see the plaque dedicated to this scholarly man, Fr Paul Walsh.
