Funding announced for five Westmeath community centres
Funding of some €116,000 for five community centres in Westmeath, including almost €45,000 for two in Mullingar, has been announced today.
Minister Robert Troy welcomed the news and said it will support enhancement and refurbishment works at the facilities.
Mullingar Congress Centre is to receive €21,104 for the replacement of doors, flooring, furniture and interior painting.
The Bandhall is to receive €23,192 for the installation of a storage container and kitchen facility.
Also, Ballinahown Community Hall receives €25,000 for the refurbishment of sanitary facilities; St Kieran’s Community Centre, €23,750 for enhancement works; and St Brendan’s Community Centre, €23,182 for solar panels.
The investment is part of a €5.6 million national funding package announced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, TD, which will support improvement works at 279 community centres nationwide.
Minister Troy said: “Community centres are at the heart of towns and villages across Westmeath. They provide vital spaces for local organisations, sporting groups, older people and families to come together, helping to build stronger, more connected communities.
“I am particularly pleased to see almost €45,000 allocated to two facilities here in Mullingar, and that both the Congress Centre and the Bandhall will benefit from improvements. These are practical investments that will help ensure these facilities remain welcoming, functional and equipped to meet the needs of the community.
“Particularly in rural areas, community centres serve as important local hubs, providing a place for people to meet, participate in activities and access services. Investing in their upkeep and development is essential to ensuring they can continue to serve communities for years to come.”
