'Nights like this remind us St Loman’s about more than what happens on pitch'
A huge crowd had gathered in the main function room at the Greville Arms Hotel when Brian Murphy as MC opened an event to celebration the achievements of the underage players at St Loman’s GAA, Mullingar.
Boys and girls from U12 to U16 received medals from the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Brian welcomed those young players, their coaches and their parents, and special guests, senior players Vicky Carr and Sam McCartan, who handed over the medals. “They are legends in the club and in the county, and a great example of what you can achieve if you work hard, be resilient and dedicate yourself,” he said.
Addressing the families, Brian said: “If you guys didn’t bring your kids, they wouldn’t be here, they wouldn’t be playing, and they wouldn’t be enjoying the success that they have, so it’s all a credit to you.
“Keep spreading the word in schools and everywhere you go. We’re trying to create an environment where everyone feels valued, that there’s something for everyone.”
He said the club are always looking for coaches, and anyone interested should make contact.
Club president Aoife Davitt thanked everyone who was there on the evening and said their presence was a “reminder of what a special community we have”.
“A big thank-you to Aidan Canning and Dossie Kilmurray for all the work they put into organising the night. It meant a lot to everyone there and it showed tonight. Thanks also to Brian Murphy for keeping us entertained as MC, and to the Scór representatives who entertained us this evening and who were brilliant.
“Thank you to Ted Cronin for everything he does throughout the year. The time and care that go in behind the scenes make such a difference to the underage section and to the whole club.
“We were delighted to welcome, Sam McCartan and Vicky Carr – thank you for joining us and being amazing role models for the club.
“To the players, congratulations. We’re proud of you. To the coaches, mentors and volunteers, thank you for the countless hours you give to the young people. Thank you also to everyone who sponsors, raises funds, volunteers or gets behind the teams. It’s never taken for granted.
“There’s a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to as we keep investing in the facilities and the people.
“Nights like this remind us that St Loman’s are about so much more than what happens on the pitch. We are about community, friendship and pride in the blue and white.
“If you can give a little time, whether it’s volunteering, helping at a training session or encouraging the next group of young players, every bit helps.
“Thanks again to everyone who made it such a special night, thanks also to the Greville Arms Hotel for looking after us so well.”
