‘Shop local’ with Mullingar vouchers this Christmas
The ‘shop local’ message is one that cannot be repeated enough, and – apart from the obvious way of doing just that – there is another easy way to support the concept, buying Mullingar Chamber Shopping Vouchers.
The purpose of the scheme is to encourage people to shop local in support of employment in the town.
The Mullingar Chamber Shopping Voucher Scheme, with support from Buckley’s SuperValu and Mullingar Credit Union, is a shop local initiative supporting local retailers, businesses and community by encouraging local spending.
Each voucher sold delivers four times its value
In 2018, approximately €200,000 of vouchers were sold and Retail Excellence Ireland research shows that this creates value to the extent of €800,000 to the local economy.
Christmas is a particularly popular period for the Mullingar Chamber Shopping Voucher Scheme as vouchers are the perfect gift for friends and family and as an employer, the gift of vouchers to employees up to the value of €500 is tax free.
Vouchers can be purchased in the Mullingar Chamber office or the Mullingar Credit Union.
Julia Dalton, CEO, Mullingar Chamber, said: “we would like to thank the local business and wider community for supporting this initiative. We would also thank Westmeath County Council for their support with this scheme under funding provided through a Service Level Agreement to market Mullingar.
“The Mullingar Chamber Shopping Voucher Scheme is designed to promote spending with local retailers and businesses and enhance economic growth for the town.
“The key message in Mullingar is shop local, support local,” said Ms Dalton.
