St Mary's looking to extend

An application to extend St Mary's Primary School in Mullingar has been lodged with Westmeath County Council.

The extension is to be two-storey in height and is to provide the school with two classrooms, one assisted WC and four special education rooms.

The extension is to be constructed at the existing courtyard to the rear of the southwestern wing, within the curtilage of the Hevey Institute, a protected structure.

The application states that the new accommodation will not adversely affect the external play area and that it will not give rise to an increase in either staff or pupil numbers.

A decision on the application is due on August 12.
